This 40,000 pound mining machine shaft required a 1-2 pitch crown spline on both ends. Each spline was cut to SAE Class 5 fit tolerances on our Pfauter P2500B Precision Gear Hobbing Machine. Our 20 ton Overhead Crane assisted in flipping the part.

The Gear Works Completes Testing of New Gearboxes for the Ballard Bridge

Since 1918 the Ballard Bridge has served as a major link to N.W. Seattle by providing access for 52,000 vehicles a day over the Lake Washington Ship Canal. During the year, the bridge will open approximately 5,200 times for boat traffic.

The government’s research and development facility, Jet Propulsion Laboratories of Pasadena, California, was responsible for design and construction of the space vehicles, called Landers, and the mobile geology labs, called Rovers, which were contained in the Landers. The $820,000,000 Mars Exploration Mission was designed to reveal the role of water in the planet’s history, and to determine if it may have ever sparked any form of life.
