When the Washington State Ferry System needed a reliable source to overhaul their 2500 H.P. gearboxes,
used on the Issaquah class ferry boats, they turned to The Gear Works for fast, dependable service.
The first photo shows the Low Speed Bull Gear being precision ground on a Gleason-Pfauter P1600G Gear Grinder.

After 25 years of service the propulsion drives were showing signs of wear and increasing noise.

This rebuild program has succeeded in extending the gearbox service life,
reducing transmission noise and yielding the State of Washington substantial savings
over the cost of procuring new replacement drives.
